UK exclusive

UK DIY at Turnpike Gallery opens 14th Feb. Amongst a feast of craft exploration will be the first official public showing in the UK of Faythe Levine's special promotional edit of the film Handmade Nation.

Handmade Nation documents a movement of artists, crafters and designers that recognise a marriage between historical techniques, pink and DIY ethos while being influenced by traditional handiwork, politics, feminism and art. Fueled by a common thread of creating, Handmade Nation explores a burgeoning art community based on creativity, determination and networking.

In 2006 Director Faythe Levine travelled to 15 cities in the US, interviewing 80 individuals. She captured the virtually tight-knit community that exists through websites, blogs, online stores, and connects to the greater public through boutiques, galleries and craft fairs.

The film will be on show throughout the UK DIY exhibition at Turnpike Gallery, Leigh between February 14th and April 26th. The accompanying book will also be available in the gallery to browse at your leisure.
